We are bonded members of The Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA), which was formed in 1981 as the professional and regulatory body for letting agents. ARLA appraises and regulates all member companies and provides guidelines, training and advice. This ensures that a framework of ethical standards and professionalism is maintained at a level far higher than the law demands, as the skills of member firms and their staff are continually developed by ARLA seminars and training courses. Membership is only achieved after strict investigation and interview.
We are members of the Tenancy Deposit Scheme, which provides a fair and independent adjudication should there be a dispute over the deposit at the end of the tenancy and hold professional indemnity insurance.

Shuttleworths have been Letting and Managing properties in Bexhill and the surrounding area for over 20 years.
We have a wide range of property available to rent and will be pleased to make appointments for you to view any of those that you consider suitable.
Once you’ve found a property through us, a copy of our Terms of Business will be made available to you which sets out clearly what we require from you to take up a tenancy.
We will take up references and if these are satisfactory we will prepare an Assured Shorthold Tenancy Agreement. This is a legal binding contract between a landlord and tenant setting out both the legal and contractual responsibilities and obligations of the two parties. The agreement will allow you to reside at the property for a minimum period of 6 months. After this period the tenancy may be renewed or terminated depending on your requirements and the Landlord’s.
We will provide you with, free of charge, a detailed schedule of condition of the property which will describe the contents and condition of each room together with photographs. This is an absolutely essential document that provides a written benchmark of the condition of the property. At the end of the tenancy we will refer to the schedule to see that the condition of the property is as it was at the beginning of the tenancy subject to fair wear and tear.
If you rent one of our managed properties, your deposit will be protected by the Tenancy Deposit Scheme run by an organisation called the Dispute Service which means that in the event of an unresolved dispute or stalemate over the allocation of the deposit at the end of the tenancy, it can be referred to the scheme for a prompt, independent third party adjudication to provide a resolution which is fair to both landlord and tenant.
We are members of ARLA – the Association of Residential Letting Agents. ARLA leads the industry in setting and regulating the highest standards in the industry and demands certain levels of professionalism and commitment to customer service from its membership.
ARLA members are required to employ a minimum of at least one member of staff, in any office, who holds a suitable industry qualification, recognised by the Association. Shuttleworths have three qualified members of staff who are fully conversant with legislation and day to day matters involved in letting and management and are therefore available to offer you advice and guidance. ARLA keeps it members up to date with changes in legislation and provides wide-ranging training and guidance to help members understand and interpret all aspects of letting and managing a property.
